 How to change your name

In this country, any citizen can, in law, at any time, change their first name, surname or both. A legal document known as a deed poll or change of name deed provides evidence of this and is an accepted form of the change.

Listed below are some bodies whom you would need to show this document to.

  • Inland Revenue

  • Doctor

  • Department of Social Security

  • Schools

  • DVLA

  • Bank

  • Building Society

  • Passport Office

  • Loan, Investment, Pension Companies

  • Employer

  • Local Authority

It is important to note that a name can not be changed on a Birth Certificate.
